Title 1

Petersen Elementary Title I Program Overview

Petersen Elementary is a Title I, Part A campus, which means we receive federal funding to provide all students with a high-quality education and to help every child meet and exceed state academic standards. These funds are used to:

  • Provide additional instructional staff and resources to support student learning.

  • Offer targeted interventions for students needing extra help in reading, writing, math, and other subjects.

  • Fund professional development opportunities for teachers to strengthen instructional practices.

  • Support family engagement activities that encourage parents to be active partners in their child’s education.

Our Title I program is designed to ensure that every student, regardless of background or circumstances, has the support, resources, and opportunities needed to succeed academically and socially.

At Petersen Elementary, we believe that strong partnerships between school and home are essential to student success. Our Parent and Family Engagement Policy outlines how we work together with families to support learning:

  • Monthly Title I Meetings: Held each month to inform families about the Title I program, funding, and how it benefits our students.

  • Parent Communication: Regular updates through ParentSquare, campus website, phone calls, and meetings.

  • Workshops & Events: Opportunities for parents to learn strategies to help their children with academics at home.

  • Decision-Making Opportunities: Parents are invited to participate in the Shared Decision-Making Committee (SDMC), Title I planning meetings, and other advisory groups.

  • Accessibility: All information is provided in formats and languages that families can easily understand.

Our goal is to empower parents as partners in their child’s education and create a welcoming environment where every family feels valued and involved.

School-Parent Compact

The School-Parent Compact is an agreement between Petersen Elementary staff, students, and parents that outlines shared responsibilities for student achievement.

As a school, we will:

  • Provide high-quality curriculum and instruction in a supportive, effective learning environment.

  • Communicate regularly with parents about their child’s progress.

  • Offer opportunities for parents to volunteer, observe, and participate in their child’s learning.

As parents/guardians, we will:

  • Ensure our child attends school regularly and on time.

  • Support learning at home by providing a quiet place for homework and encouraging reading every day.

  • Communicate with teachers and participate in school activities.

As students, we will:

  • Come to school prepared to learn each day.

  • Complete all classwork and homework to the best of our ability.

  • Show respect for ourselves, our classmates, and our teachers.

Together, we are committed to building a strong foundation for lifelong learning and success.
